The Kampung Sungai Baru Redevelopment Project officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by residents, government leaders, and key stakeholders, marking the start of a new chapter for the community.
After nearly a decade of anticipation, a long-awaited milestone was finally reached as the Kampung Sungai Baru Redevelopment Project officially commenced, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the community.
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, and attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, and Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus. Hundreds of resident representatives were also present to witness the occasion.
As part of the event, residents were invited to view an exhibition showcasing the proposed development, including model homes that reflect the improved living standards to come. The new residential units are designed to range between 900 and 1,200 square feet, each featuring three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a significant upgrade from the original homes.
Beyond the physical transformation, the ceremony reflected a shared commitment between the government, Suezcap, and the Kampung Sungai Baru community to move forward together. Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha emphasised that the project’s progress will be closely monitored in collaboration with relevant agencies and residents, ensuring it is completed within the agreed timeline and standards.
For many, the day represented more than just the start of construction. As Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im — himself a native of Kampung Sungai Baru — shared, it symbolised the closing of a chapter that had spanned 10 years, and the beginning of a future shaped by trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
With the allocation of residential units expected to begin in the coming months, the redevelopment journey now moves forward with renewed optimism, grounded in the collective hope of creating a more dignified, comfortable, and sustainable place to call home.
