Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the developer had obtained layout planning permission and planning permission for building erection.

“The project inauguration ceremony is expected to be held soon, while construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

“The developer has obtained layout planning permission and building erection planning permission.

“The developer is in the process of obtaining other planning approvals from relevant agencies such as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” she said in a written parliamentary reply.

However, last year Zaliha said the revitalisation project was expected to commence by the end of 2024 following a development order issued by DBKL.

Last night, she said negotiations and other efforts such as briefings, dialogues and engagements with the owners of the terraced lots and flats had taken place over four years, from 2016 until October 2020.

“The main purpose of these programmes was to provide explanations and clarifications regarding the redevelopment, including proposed development concept plans, offers to owners and obtaining approval for redevelopment from owners.

“The redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru will ensure that owners enjoy a better, more comfortable, modern and orderly standard of living, and enable the property to unlock its potential or land value to earn higher returns in the future,” she said.

Kampung Sungai Baru is located outside the Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) area, which is synonymous with Kampong Bharu.

The minister said the project involves 328 residential units, comprising 64 terraced lots and 264 flat units across eight blocks of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Sungai Baru Flats, covering an area of 7.95 acres.

“The development of this area was originally undertaken by PKNS around the 1970s, and the land holding in Kampung Sungai Baru is a 99-year lease,” she said.
